BEAUTY|MY FIRST EVER SKIN CARE ROUTINE

My first ever skincare routine, thisthingcalledfashionn

If you’re looking for a skincare routine that’s going to make you look as banging as JLO at 45 this post is so not for you. Why? Cause I’m a virgin when it comes to Skincare and this is my first attempt at documenting one. I felt this was necessary because I’d like to believe I am not the only girl/woman out there trying/starting out a skin care routine + this would actually push me to take my skin care more seriously seeing I’m more of a babe now and it’s a major part of the lady cycle, So heyy join me as I start my self discovery journey into the land of skincare products.

Like other things “too much of everything isn’t good” so don’t go overboard with the products.

WHAT IS SAID TO BE RIGHT

I did a little research and apparently these 5 steps where the most consistent on each daily skin care routine list;

-Cleanse

-Tone

-Exfoilate

-Moisturize

-Applying SPF(Sun protecting factor, simply put “Sunscreen”)

WHAT I ACTUALLY DO

Before attempting or starting out any skin care routine it’s advisable to find out what kind of skin you have i.e. is it Normal, oily, or a combination of both? Here’s a link on what process to follow depending on your skin while I share My daily process:

CLEANSE

Purpose: A gentle cleanser is known to remove debris, oil, and makeup. it allows the other products you use work even better, morning and evening. That’s why this is usually the first step.

My Experience: Okay I have an exfoliate cleansing gel this serves as both my cleanser and exfoliator I use this 3 times a week mostly in the morning. I apply the gel on the tip of my two index fingers and gently rub in to my face in a circular motion. Whenever I use this I feel my skin looks and feels healthier, smoother and gives a certain glow on my cheek bones.

Acne Treatment: I also use a charcoal facial soap to cleanse my face before applying my Tea Tree Essence Acne Treatment Gel. This routine I do daily at night (that’s if i don’t forget or get too lazy). I do this for my acne. Tee tree is known for treating acne, I apply a little amount of this on affected areas only. It has a hot tingling effect whenever I apply it, guess that’s the juice going in to destroy the acne.

EXFOLIATE

Purpose: Exfoliation not only cleans out clogged pores, but it also sloughs off dead skin cells. When you remove this dull layer of cells, brighter skin is revealed. This step is not recommended for daily use. If you have sensitive skin, you’ll only want to exfoliate once a week. If you have a tougher complexion, you can do it more regularly (about three times a week).

My Experience: As stated above I make use of the Miniso Milk Exfoliating Gel  to exfoliate my skin 3 times a week usually Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I wash my hands before applying this, the less dirt on your hand the better because my fingers serve as the applicator. I press a considerable amount on my index finger tips and work in the gel in a circular motion on every part of my face, leave it to settle in for a while then I gently rinse off thoroughly and use my face towel to “tap” dry.

MOISTURIZE:

Purpose: The basic function of moisturizers is to help treat your skin when it’s dry and prevent it from drying out again. The best time to apply a moisturizer is when the skin is still moist. After using a gentle cleanser, lightly pat your face damp, apply your treatments and serums and then immediately apply a layer of moisturizer to lock in the hydration.

My Experience: Honestly I haven’t bothered going out of my way to find a moisturizer I settle for my Nivea Natural fairness Body & Face cream. I apply it immediately after I exfoliate and pat my face ‘not to dry’. After doing this I notice how glowy my skin gets and the feel it makes me feel like i’m doing something right.

After all the above I head out to work, sadly no Sunscreen yet (this has a major effect on my face especially when it’s really hot) this was worse when i used a facial mask I felt my pores open and the sun felt much more harsh on my skin. So I can first hand tell you Sunscreen is IMPORTANT! I need it in My Life right now.

Basically My top 3 right now, what would I love to add? Definitely an SPF but I really have no idea which to buy that’s good quality and affordable (Please suggestions are welcome below). You must be wandering why there’s no picture of my before and after face to actually see if its working, tbh this is pretty new but I definitely felt something different about my skin. Next time I’d put that up for everyone to see by then I have a more put together routine.

Note: All Products were purchased from Miniso store (A Japanese retail store recently opened in Nigeria) This is not a sponsored post just my honest opinion on my first ever skin care routine.

  1. Hi Nayonde!!
Big ups on the skin care routine!
I use Beauty Formulas Activated Charcoal Range- Scrub, Cleanser and Mask and they are great for cleansing and maintaining the skin, doesn’t treat acne though. They are really affordable too and cost less than 1000 NGN each.
Their Micellar water is also amazing for taking of f make-up and dirt. This is from experience.
As for spf, I know Oriflame has and it’s readily available, about 5500 (kind of expensive).
    Wishing you the best!!!
