Bonjour Fashionistas,

How to become an Influencer on Instagram, Thisthingcalledfashion

Todays topic was highly requested by a few people on & off Instagram. Hence it being a Frequently Asked Question (FAQs). I think it’s finally time I share a few tips I’ve learnt along the line.

Like any logical thing in life you need to ask yourself “WHY” you are starting, “WHY” you want to be an Influencer. Write out your reason because for you to have considered being an Influencer you already have a reason why.

What kind of Influencer do you want to be ?

I know most big time influencers have an Influencer over any products/brand but you still need to be known for something. Is it your fashion sense, your career (acting, tv personality, doctor etc), your love for makeup. Find out what you do quite easily. It could be your general lifestyle.

Be Authentic

Authenticity is what keeps a brand alive. For me “I view my readers & followers as my friends and I would never want to lie to them, trick them, or use them. I create meaningful content that I genuinely like & proud to share, not just because I got paid to do it.

Just Start

Start dishing out quality pictures and tag every brand you post (don’t lie about this). You should know that no brand wants to repost or have anything to do with a blurry or low quality picture. They always want to see their products represented well.

If you’re into Beauty Products, start dishing out your opinions on products you use or why you use them. Basically feed people information they want to hear (but be honest while doing this) and be true to yourself (remember it’s hard to sell lies for a long period of time and people would start to tell which leads to “not trusting your brand”)

Influencing isn’t about the numbers now it’s more of your ability to engage with your audience and making them purchase a product or use a service you believe in. It’s important you Engage with your audience, reply comments, relate to other pages in your niche, help your audience out by dropping links and all of that ishh.

Make your Instagram Presentable & easy to understand

This is pretty straight forward

Decongest your following

You need to start following accounts that inspire you but also keep those who engage & like your pictures.

Make use of Productivity Apps

If you want to become an influencer, apps should become your close friends. They can help you plan your feed before you post, edit your pictures which helps maintain a consistent aesthetic.

Here’s a list of Apps you need HERE and HERE

UNUM is a very good App for Planning out your Instagram feeds before you post, lets you see and know which picture goes well next to the other.

Most people that ask Me this question usually have an amount of following, love for clothes and take stunning pictures but they just need a little push on how & where to start from. I hope this helps 💋

  1. Very nice post with great pictures! I would love to become an influencer but I’m not quite sure what topic to choose because I like so many things but don’t do enough of anything to have much to post :/.

    1. It can be about that then having so many things there’s a market for that, you’d be surprised how people would be able to relate

  2. Helpful tips! I love Instagram and being an influencer mainly on Youtube, but I feel like sometimes I cannot keep up with new algorithm changes. They can kill my chances at being seen by even my most loyal followers…any thoughts on how to help with situations like this?

    1. Thank you, it helps to set aside a particular time in a day for you to reply and engage with your audience and other bloggers pages that you love

  3. Hey nonye lovely post, am a huge fan ..
I’d love to be an influencer hopefully a blogger someday ,thing is i hardly have more than fouty likes on a picture and my followers base are quit poor.. What adviced would u give
secondly what do mean being fake, for example i take photos at nice locations nice cloths etc and am from a pretty humble background would u say am being fake how would balance that do

    1. Find out why that is, why you aren’t getting much likes ( is it the quality of your pictures? The content you are sharing?). Also if you’re just starting out it might be like that which is fine because with time you grow and so does the quality of your content. Then for being fake it’s okay to take pictures in nice backgrounds & nice clothes being fake is something else, trying to be someone else you’re not

  4. Great tips! I am still trying to work on the Instagram engagement thing. It seems like it’s being overrun by bots leaving generic comments like “great content” or “love your feed” just to get comments back and people who follow you and unfollow days later. So frustrating!

    1. Don’t let it frustrate you just do what you love, and follow accounts you genuinely draw inspiration from. Make sure you make use of all the Instagram features including your story and everything would fall in place

  5. Nice and helpful tips. I’d really love to be a brand influencer but just that finding the time to do this is my challenge. I’m a Vet. Medical student and one hardly has time to do anything else. Is the app available on play store?. If yes, would get it. Thanks

    1. You can start and see if you’re able to squeeze out time for it, I’m not sure feel free to search for it on the Play Store 💛
