In terms of Money, Last year was so hard for me I was always low on cash, This year asides getting a better job I started diversifying my income stream cause like I was told
“To be a Lagos Big Girl, you need to have more than one income stream”.
This isn’t the main basis why you should feel the need to but from my research and personal encounters I’ve come to realize most smart & successful people have formed the habit of investing & earning from various income streams.
Ps: I am not a financial expert, but I hope this helps a smart passion-driven hungry girl a step further to the life she wants.
Having multiple streams of income can dramatically change your life. Even just a 30,000 NGN/ $80 a month can help you pay off your transportation bills, or get you one day closer to your dream vacation.
With my exotic taste for quality products and not enough money to take me through the month, this got me thinking about other skills I had and how I could use it to make money. I thought about the regular buying and selling of products but I realized I had more to offer in terms of selling services than actual products but I still wasn’t over looking buying & selling products but not in a large scale anyways (at least for now).
So you’ve finally decided you can’t rely on just one source of income and have decided you need another source of income? Now, you need an idea? or a few tips to help you start?
Yes Please…
Start with a single income
First off you need to have a consistent and reliable single stream of income. It could either be owning your business or working 9-to-5 you want to make sure that this income is secure enough to pay your current monthly expenses and start setting aside some of the extra money by saving.
I have a single stable income that takes care of my basic necessities and that is my 9-5 job which is a full time but I have one/two days free in a week.
Ask Yourself
What’s that one thing people frequently ask you to help them with? Do you know you can earn money doing this? because for people to always seek your help on that one thing the chances are you’re pretty good at it and haven’t realized it yet or you might just not know how to turn it into a money making side hustle
Own a Blog
For me owning a blog and building it as been very beneficial, it has provided me with a lot of opportunities I would not have had without it. Tbh this makes up 80% of my side hustle. I get money from:
1) Sponsored Ads: I work with brands to promote their products through my blog and social media platforms.
2) Social Media Management: In learning how to grow my blog and putting it to practice with an aesthetically pleasing Instagram layout, brands reach out to me to help create content and manage their social media pages. Hence helping them grow their following and ensure their page is interesting.
3) Insta Story: As we all know Insta Story is awhile new wave and brands frequently approach me to help out with posting on their stories and creating fun contents & templates.
4) Creative Direction/Photo Shoots: This doesn’t happen as often as I would like but mostly because a lot of people do not know that I have the ability to create a budget friendly + creative campaign pictures/videos for Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Brands.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you require any of the above services
Sell a Product
Is there a particular product that you know there’s a market for and have an interest in selling? For example: Shoes, Small Chops, thrift items, making wigs, makeup? etc., you may be able to sell it via social media (mostly via Instagram). Doesn’t matter if you are a doctor, lawyer, financial accountant or a lawyer there is always a way around this with time management and planning, might not be easy but I know a few people and they inspire me that I can too.
I currently sell straw bags with a friend and though I’ve been a bit lax with marketing it, I certainly made a bit of cash from it.

Make money from tasks you’d do anyway
Do you drive? You can create a schedule with Uber or Taxify and pick up extra income by driving others around when you are out and about. For example, I have a friend he gets off of work, turns on his Uber app, and starts driving from work he might decide to dedicate 2 hrs to Uber or find a rider going his way. This is a great way to combine something to earn more money.
Ps: I recently learnt from a female Taxify driver how she earns ‘350,000 NGN” a month. That got me thinking on how fast I can get my drivers license and jump on this opportunity.
Do you own a camera and you already take product/lifestyle pictures for your blog? You can start getting clients to help take their product pictures. Don’t worry practice makes perfect + you can always invest in an online course to improve your skills.
Affiliate Marketing might be a good idea
I know this hardly works in Nigeria but strongly feel if this is done the right way you have a sure chance of it becoming a stable side hustle. This is a passive income technique that is better suited to people who have blogs and active websites. I am seriously considering adding this to my multiple income stream sooner than later
What is Affiliate Marketing?
You sign up to promote certain products or services on your site and social media, for which you will be paid either a flat fee or a percentage of the amount of the sale completed. To get started you have to buy an item from the brand most times at a 40% discount. You would also be giving a discount code & link to share with your followers.
Don’t quit your full time job, if you currently have one. As soon as you start implementing your multiple streams, you can cut back on your hours or perhaps work from home, but in the beginning, you’ll need to rely on that income to get you through
Write an Ebook
No this does not apply to only Bloggers, I feel anyone who has something to offer that people want can do this and make money off it. I am still in the works on how to put an eBook together, from what I have seen from a few bloggers it is a lot of work but if done right it can provide with a passive income stream for years. Once I nail this would definitely share a few tips to get started.
Create an online course
I have read a lot of stories of people who have done this and currently making money from it, honestly most people do not get it right the first time. I would not be trying this anytime soon, hopefully a year or two from now I probably would.
Here are a few things that are usually included in an online course:
*video lessons
*small eBooks to supplement the lessons
*audio files for people listening while traveling. Etc.
At this point you’ve probably thought about at least one thing you can do to bring in that extra income, on that note here are a few tips to help you when you start:
- If your side business relates to your job? You could definitely use that to your advantage.
- Working on your breaks and lunches. These can be great times to check your side business emails and stay current on the latest in your niche.
- Build a network. Your work network can also be vital to your side business. Especially if your business relates to your job or maybe not.
A QUICK HOMEWORK
1. Go to a quiet space
2. Figure out what makes you valuable; what skills you have to offer
3. Write it out
4. Write out steps on how you can start any of the above you’ve written out as a Side Hustle.
Note: Having multiple streams of money income is quite different from actually managing it, well that’s my next struggle when I find a way to crack this I’ll definitely share it on here,
One ultimate goal of making money is to enjoy it and what better way than to travel? I hear Travel Start offers Cheap flights to London. Going to save my coins & book myself a holiday.
Till then keep sitting pretty/handsome

I am also thinking of creating short short online courses on fashion business . Thanks

Nay for the slay…definitely a good read. Very helpful too knowing I’ve been procrastinating on starting something for myself to earn that ‘extra’ income plus when you’re totally exhausted from your 9-5…it’s a struggle really.

Thanks a lot Nayonde! I’ve been thinking of getting a side hustle (main hustle is studenting lol) but procrastination has got the better of me. This post has given me some inspiration tho. How you manage your regular job, side hustles AND blogging beats me. More grease to your elbow!

This is well written as always. Having multiple streams of income is one the smartest things to do as person but it requires a crazy amount of dedication + perseverance – basically, ko easy !
I have a 9-7 job that pays not as good as I hoped and I also have a side hustle, that’s a bit difficult to get people to patronize. Lol

Yes it does require dedication. Cause sometimes I get tired myself . Have you tried finding out why people are not patronizing ?
