3 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT POSTING VIDEOS ON INSTAGRAM

It took a solid 20 minutes to figure out how to start off this post, that’s what being inconsistent does, It leaves you feeling like you’ve lost your mojo. Maybe I have or it’s just me overthinking it either ways I decided to test myself on a “One week blogging challenge” what better way to start of than with a Post on ‘Videos & Instagram” two very sort after terms. It’s no surprise it ranked first on my IG Poll on what Post to publish first. (see below)

3 things you should know . . .

The ratio of your video: This is a major part of your thought process when planning out a video even if its just in your head. Also keep that thought while executing the filming process. Ask yourself “is my phone/camera to close”? “When i’m posting to IG would it cut out my head ‘? “Am I getting all the details in my frame”? Have no idea what the right frame/aspect ratio is for Instagram? 1080x x 1080px &

Your video frame ratio can be different from the above (more landscape or portrait) just remember to fit every detail in the video (i.e. caption, product description etc.) into the IG frame ratio while editing. If not you might just get a little frustrated while posting.

The Quality of your video: We all know the purpose of a good quality video its 50x more engaging & pleasant to look at. Be sure to save your videos in the highest possible quality (using inshot/photogrid? please pay for the pro versions and save your videos in the highest quality) + remove any watermarks.

Asides editing & saving in quality there comes the issue of posting a video on IG and it looking shitty & very low quality yep! you’re probably nodding in agreement, guess what the easy fix is? “FAST INTERNET” with the exception of a time when IG was consistently posting low quality of everyone’s video asides this default ? If you’re posting a 1 min long video go where your wifi is fastest for optimum result.

Music rights: The easiest way to get people vibing to your videos ? or glued to your videos? Using a song that goes best with the transitions & the overall aesthetic of the video. Okay Yesss! you got the perfect song now it’s posting time ? It’s safest to always credit who the music belongs to. For example: I create a fierce fashion video featuring a few of my current fashion faves , I decide to use Cardi b’s “I like it like that” after writing out my caption for my video post, I simply add: “Song: I like it like that and tag @cardib or hashtag the artiste name #Cardib”

This automatically prevents IG from taking down your video when you post it, as long as IG has a right to that music in your country.

MORE TIPS:

  • Post videos at peak periods & use relevant hashtags for more visibility
  • What’s the purpose of your video? What message are you passing across? any intro or end? what action do you want people to take after watching your video?
  • If you worked hard on a video and you know its sharable content? like a ‘How to” “Make up ” “Funny’ ‘Inspirational” etc. be sure to include your IG handle on your video. That’s how people go viral with no IG handle to reference back to how do people know where to check for more of your great content?
  • NEVER post a video with a watermark of the App you used to edit.
  • Tag the products/service used in the video, this might lead to a future paid partnership which you can make money off or at least save some coins through gifted items.

These are all things I learnt myself from posting videos on IG hopefully one or all of these tips save you time, making the whole process easier & more fun.
